Biography
Guillaume Terrail is, since September 2016, solo cello assistant of the Symphony Orchestra of the Gran Teatro del Liceo in Barcelona. In addition to his activity as an orchestra musician, he also offers solo concerts as well as with several chamber music formations throughout Europe. He has participated in several festivals such as the Tibor Varga Festival in Switzerland and the Bac Credomatic Festival in Costa Rica, where he performed with UceLi string quartet, formed by members of the Liceo Orchestra. He is a member of Neroli Trio and he regularly offers concerts with other formations, such as the "Chamber Orchestra of Barcelona", as a solo cello or the "Art Symphony Ensemble". He is also part of cello-piano duos with pianists Renata Amirova, Véronique Werkle and the jazz pianist Ralph Zurmühle. He regularly collaborates with the AIMS Foundations (Academia Internacional de Música de Solsona).
Guillaume Terrail has always given great importance to music education and he has been teaching cello since the beginning of his professional career. He worked as a cello teacher for three years in two Music Conservatories in Germany. Furthermore, he was also a substitute teacher at the Haute Ecole de Musique of Lausanne (Switzerland) and at the University of Music Karlsruhe (Germany). He currently collaborates with the Young Symphony Orchestra of Barcelona as a cello professor.
Born in Lausanne, Guillaume Terrail, a Franco-Swiss citizen, began to play cello at the age of six at the Montreux Conservatory of Music. In 2006 he joined the University of Music of Lausanne with Professor Susan Rybicki-Varga. He continued his studies with Professor Marcio Carneiro and he graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor of Music.
He continued his training in Germany with cellist and professor Martin Ostertag at the University of Music Karlsruhe, where he obtained his Master's degree in Performing Arts with the highest qualifications in January 2015.
Parallel to his studies, he received Masterclasses with cellists Claudio Bohorquez, Troels Svane, François Guye and László Fenyõ. Being passionate about chamber music, he perfected his musical training with cellist Peter Buck, members of the Fauré Quartett, pianist Ralf Gothoni and violinist Josef Rissin.
He was awarded in several competitions, obtaining prizes such as the DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) and Jeunesses musicales suisse.
During the 2015-2016 season, he was part of the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra.
Guillaume Terrail plays a modern instrument built in 2016 in Berlin by luthier Ragnar Hayn.
